Real food, unpretentious and big in flavour, in a rustic venue hung
with farm implements and original art. Two menus: dishes inspired by
fresh produce and the creativity of chef Natasha Harris, and a longer,
seasonal a la carte. Perennials are dry-aged beef with gourmet sauces,
and a cast-iron pot simmering over the fire in winter, the contents
(oxtail is melt-in-the mouth) ladled into individual potjies. Camembert
and onion tart drizzled with balsamic and topped with sour cream. Roasted
Cape salmon, stuffed with mushrooms and feta, in parmesan sauce. An
extensive, informatively annotated wine list highlights the Helderberg
region and then moves on to 'the rest of the world'. The walk-in cellar
is a browser's delight, housing a selection of rare and vintage wines.
